MUAR, July 5 (Bernama) — Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin Saturday said the police report of sodomy against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is a personal issue and should not be politicised to the extent that it is causing confusion among the people.
He said the way Anwar was going about handling a personal issue by involving the people of the country was causing confusion to the people.
“I have been informed that the people are getting worried that Datuk Seri Anwar might repeat what he had done in 1998 (when faced with a similar issue),” he told reporters after opening a women entrepreneurs’ workshop and launching the Women Entrepreneurs of Malaysia Directory 2008, here.
Muhyiddin, who is International Trade and Industry Minister, said the happenings related to the Anwar sodomy police report were causing unease in the country at a time when the people were having to put up with an increase in the prices of goods following the rise in the global price of oil.
He said he was informed the western media was portraying Malaysia as a country faced with a political crisis to the extent that there were assumptions the national economy was on “auto pilot”.
