BUTTERWORTH, July 6 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has challenged the Malaysian government to prove that he had contacted a representative of the United States (US) government to seek help from that country. The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor said he was prepared to be charged in court if the government had proof that he had contacted the US representative.
“I did not call, I did not write (to the US government) and Wan Azizah herself had not contacted anyone from the US government.
“But there were several Islamic leaders from abroad who contacted me and asked me to be patient and said that they would pray for me.
“I have already said that I will face the allegation, if they (the government) have proof, then take me to court. I’m ready,” Anwar said in his ceramah, here Saturday night.
He said this when commenting on the statement by Home Minister that the latest US intervention against any investigation or politically-motivated charge against Anwar clearly proved that Anwar was a ‘reporter’ for the major powers.
Syed Hamid had said that Anwar’s attitude of panicking immediately to inform the US proved that he was not qualified to lead the country as he was not independent.
As a Muslim, Anwar said Syed Hamid should apologise to him because the latter’s allegation that he (Anwar) was a US agent was not true.
